The City of Danville is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our team.
This position regularly performs construction inspections, material testing, project planning, initial investigations of citizen requests, and coordinates with the Sewer, Streets, and Parks divisions on maintenance projects.
Normal Work Hours: 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday - Friday, hours may vary
Salary Range: $60,800 - $91,200
Qualifications and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in engineering sciences or similar field with related work experience. Performs continuing education requirements to maintain certifications and to gain technical expertise.
- Zero (0) to five (5) years of work experience and a general knowledge of municipal engineering concepts.
- Relevant college coursework and continuing education certifications.
- Project design support and construction inspection and documentation.
- Quantity computations, material testing, cost estimating, and man-hour projections.
- Resident construction engineering and surveying.
- Design computations.
- Public involvement and public dispute resolutions.
- QA/QC review of departmental work product.
- Experience on/around construction sites for infrastructure or public works projects.
- Technical expertise in one or more areas of municipal engineering, which may include CADD, surveying, sanitary sewers, drainage/storm water management, roadways, pedestrian facilities, or bridges.
- Illinois Class D Vehicle Operators License.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Employees must possess a basic working knowledge of the following skill sets along with the ability to demonstrate an improvement of these skills within 30 days of their start date.
- Advanced proficiency level utilizing Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and the Internet.
- Advanced math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, interest, geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and similar concepts.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Working knowledge of surveying equipment and material testing equipment.
- Advanced CADD skills and software customization.
- Survey data manipulation and management, construction documentation systems, software, and hardware selection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regularly performs construction inspection, material testing, project planning, initial investigations of citizen inquiries/requests, and coordinates with sewer, streets, and parks divisions on maintenance projects.
- May participate in capital planning, asset management, survey, mapping, concept design, bid document assembly, construction observation, engineering design, utility coordination, construction documentation, consultant plan review, project management, cost estimating, report generation, studies, permitting, agency coordination, economic development, grant solicitations, budgeting, and inter-departmental coordination.
- Work on complex projects.
- Implements and enforces departmental standards and policies.
