The City of Danville is seeking a Records Clerk for our Police Department.
The Police Records Clerk performs important clerical duties as it relates to the maintenance of official records of the Danville Police Department and Vermilion County Law Enforcement Agencies. These duties include coding, typing reports, filing, maintaining daily reports and related logs, answering telephones, reception, and jail bonding.
Normal Work Hours: 2:45pm to 11:15pm, Friday – Tuesday (Wed/Thu weekends)
Salary: $42,816.60
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum HS Diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent education.
- Increasingly responsible experience in clerical office practices or closely related field.
- Functional keyboarding experience and utilization of computers.
- For consideration, candidates must consent to an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Employees must possess a basic working knowledge of the following skill sets along with the ability to demonstrate an improvement of these skills within 30 days of their start date.
- Must be able to type at least forty words per minute.
- Knowledge of office systems and procedures.
- Must work well with the public in a confidential manner and have good interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of the geographical location served by the Police Records operations.
- Ability to learn the laws and ordinances with regard to criminal offenses, traffic violations and those concerning the keeping of police records.
- Respond courteously and informatively to citizens’ requests for services, information and issues of concern to them.
- Communicate effectively.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Required Licenses: The person holding this position must have the following licenses or be able to obtain the same within 30 days of their start date:
- Illinois Class D Vehicle Operators License.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain files.
- Enter information into the computer .
- Complete fingerprint packets.
- Gather data for monthly reporting.
- Files court dispositions.
- Copy records for departmental entities.
- Process requests for reports.
- Process Military records checks and background information requests.
- Answering phones in a helpful and courteous manner.
- Operating office equipment.
- Processing requests from various companies and departments.
- Sorting and filing all moving traffic tickets daily.
- Review law enforcement records for accuracy.
- Complete basic police reports for minor offenses and recovered property.
- Process recovered property as evidence.

Residency Requirements: Employees of the City must establish their principal residence within forty-five (45) miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within six months following successful completion of their probationary period. Department Heads are expected to live within five (5) miles of the corporate limits.
