Description
Process incoming payments for taxes, utilities and miscellaneous bills; use city cashiering software to post payments to customer utility, tax or miscellaneous accounts.
The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
- Posts payments for customers who come personally and enter the information into the cashiering system.
- Processes mail, drop-box and electronic transfer payments through the cashiering system.
- Enters reconnect orders into the computer and notifies the Commissioner of Revenue by phone of DMV stop releases.
- Processes batches for first run and verification by running reports for rejects and pulling out for manual processing; and bagging checks with check listing report and filing payment stubs.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Controls cash drawer by maintaining the amounts sufficient to handle customer payment transactions; preparing bank deposits and store daily receipt copies.
- Attends meetings and training sessions.
- Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as assigned.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED or level of knowledge equivalent. Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operations of machines, and up to one year of experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above.
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
Job Knowledge
Basic familiarity with the work to know common principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
Reading
Basic: Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable words.
Writing
Basic: Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses.
Math
Basic: Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
