What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Crossing Guard position at City of Danville?
Assists in the safe movement of pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic at school intersections. Directs traffic at school intersections and stops traffic to allow children and adults to safely cross.The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
High School or GED. No experience is required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above
Certifications/Licenses
Job Knowledge
Basic familiarity with the work to know common principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
Reading
Basic: Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable words.
Writing
Basic: Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses.
Math
Basic: Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Communication Skills
Requires regular & routine interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
Independence and Decision-Making
Normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with little oversight and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance reviewed periodically.
Technical Skills
Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Position does not use tools or equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is normally performed in an outdoor setting. The employee is regularly exposed to environmental factors and continuous physical danger or abuse. Safety vest is required.
- Directs traffic and crossing pedestrians by standing in intersections; monitoring traffic conditions; and stopping and starting traffic to allow pedestrians to safely cross.
- Assists with prosecution of traffic violators by successfully completing department training; attending court; obtaining warrants on violators; and testifying in court on the facts of the case.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as assigned.

- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria
