What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector position at City of Darlington?
The Building Inspector is the department head over the Building and Codes Department in the City of Darlington.
The Building Inspector should have general knowledge in Construction, Building Codes, Customer Service, Zoning, and Floodplain
The Building Inspector is responsible to perform the following duties:
- Administration and Enforcement of currently adopted State and Municipal Building Codes
- Administration and enforcement of municipal zoning ordinances
- Review and approve all applications for permits
- Complete plan reviews for proposed commercial and residential projects
- Perform on-site inspections for building and all trades to ensure compliance to applicable building codes
- Enforce all city municipal codes
- Assist in the development of new city ordinances related to the building and codes department and also assist in amending current ordinances as necessary.
- Complete Plat Reviews
- Work closely with the Darlington County Tax Assessor's Office and Planning Department
- Aid citizens to resolve code violations and complaints
- Educate and aid citizens who are seeking information relating to the building and codes department
- Perform the duties of the Floodplain Manager and Zoning Administrator
Candidate must be able to obtain the ICC Building Official Certification within 2 years of employment
