What are the responsibilities and job description for the Common Chord - Youth Program Development Specialist position at City of Davenport AmeriCorps?
*This is a temporary AmeriCorps position through the City of Davenport AmeriCorps Program*
Position Information:
Living Stipend: $3,700
Education Award: $1,565.08
Service Term Dates: May 12, 2025 - August 2, 2025
Position Specifics:
1) Help facilitate Let’s Band Together Program ongoing efforts throughout the summer term
· Catalog and test instruments weekly based on training provided within the first two weeks of term
· Update inventory weekly based on training provided within first weeks of term
· Inform local music educators and teaching artists weekly via phone, email, and in-person of Let’s Band Together Program and other free resources available to them through Common Chord (i.e., free music education events)
2) Enhance InTune Mentor Program weekly at locations: Project Renewal, Friendly House, Boys & Girls Club, and Martin Luther King Center
· Interact with lower to upper-elementary aged children through musical instruments (i.e., drums, maracas)
o Help facilitate predetermined music-based activities (i.e., musical chairs, rhythm activities, musical instrument exploration)
o Request, collect, and maintain the supplies required for activities as needed
· Develop at least 4 proposals for new activities and educational games that are based in music
o Research on the internet and identify potential activities that promote music and music education
o Develop activity proposals that include: age appropriateness, group size, space needs, supply requirements
o Submit 1 completed activity proposal to site supervisor by each deadline: June 4, June 18, July 2, and July 16, 2025
o Implement approved activities during following weeks of service, as scheduled by site supervisor
3) Create content for weekly, ongoing communications and community outreach efforts
· Develop written pieces and/or graphic design pieces (i.e., Photoshop, Canva)
· Submit at least 1 written or graphic design piece to site supervisor by deadline of Thursdays each week
4) Increase engagement with the community to enhance music education efforts
· Attend at least 1 free community event per week with site supervisor or other senior staff by running the Common Chord table, answering questions about AmeriCorps and free community events with the goal of community outreach
· Support other community-oriented programming, as needed, by taking photos and setting up for free community events and programs
· Attend the Freight House Farmers Market at least 1 weekend day each week by running the Common Chord table, answering questions about AmeriCorps and free community events with the goal of community outreach
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
· Background in the field of music, music education, human services, or related field
· Experience working with children and families preferred
Eligibility Criteria:
· Certify that they have or will obtain a diploma/GED before the service contract start date
· Be 18 years old at the start of service
· Pass a national service criminal history check prior to first day of service
· Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US national, or Lawful Permanent Resident
