Position Function/Nature of Work:
Under the supervision of the Park and Recreation Superintendent, the Site Supervisor will serve as the primary adult responsible for youth and the Summer Recreation Program Staff. Site Supervisors will plan, implement and participate in well-organized and varied indoor and outdoor recreational/athletic activities and special events. Site Supervisors are responsible for day-to-day camp operations, administrative duties, supervision and safety of all participants in summer camp program.
This position requires work that involves, walking or sitting most of the time, and exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis.
This position risks exposure to extreme heat, blood borne pathogens, human waste, bright/dim light.

- Supervise and provide leadership to camp counselors and camp participants.
- Oversee all camp activities to ensure appropriate counselor coverage, and assist counselors with, as well as participate in all camp recreational activities and programs (i.e. pool, art/crafts, sports, games etc.).
- Lead staff to deal with communication to parents.
- Lead staff to deal with both emergency and non-emergency health issues such as lice, flu, bloody noses, etc.
- Provides a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure safe operations of a quality program.
- Maintains and oversees the proper use of equipment and supplies.
- Completes and maintains proper reports, time sheets, and provides information to other camp counselors.
- Enforces facility rules and regulations; takes appropriate corrective action with camp participants.
- Safeguards camp participants and provides a safe and clean working environment.
- Perform other non-essential duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with other staff, participants, parents and/or guardians, volunteers and the general public.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to respond to public inquiries regarding activates and camp participants.
- Must be physically able to sufficiently perform the essential functions and duties of this position.
- Must be able to physically assist and participate in physical activities with camp participants.
- Ability to perform various tasks in all weather conditions and under various levels of physical exertion.
- Must be able to bend, stand, run and lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to resolve disciplinary problems as they occur in a professional manner.
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Knowledge and experience with camp, policies and procedures desired.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in High school with satisfactory progress or possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- A strong desire and ability to lead activities.
- Full attendance for the eight (8) week summer and attend all staff meetings, training and family events.
- Must be willing to learn and demonstrate a positive attitude.
- Persons with recreational program, camp counseling and teaching or related experience preferred.
Other requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must possess a valid State of Florida drivers' license.
- Must possess an honorable military discharge, if applicant has been service connected.
- Must be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen.
- Must pass a physical examination and drug urinalysis test.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony.
Licenses/Certifications:
- First Aid and CPR Certification is mandatory, and must be current throughout camp.
Comments:
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
