Description: The Inclusion Leader works as a direct support staff that provides assistance to campers with disabilities. Inclusion leaders will be assigned to various site locations and different campers each week. The Inclusion Policy/Program, is designed to ensure compliance by the City with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and to facilitate opportunities for participants with disabilities to engage in recreational pursuits in the most integrated setting possible by providing reasonable modifications and
accommodations.Hours: Inclusion Leaders must be available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (schedules vary) from mid-June through August, attend staff meetings (some evenings/late afternoons), and participate in a mandatory all day training on Saturday, (date TBD) with additional TBD trainings.
Wages: Community Services Specialist I & II – $16.55 per hour based upon experience
Status/Selection Process: Temporary Part Time, No Benefits. Applicants are screened according to experience relevant to this position. The most qualified applicants are invited to attend individual or small group interviews and hiring assessments. Duties:
- Inclusion Leaders provide support, supervision and needed accommodations to an individual with a disability registered for City of Davis programs.
- Implementing support techniques adapting activities, enforcing camp rules, following or creating support plans, applying behavioral techniques, navigating social skills, and maintaining a safe environment.
- Reporting to various camp locations, riding bikes and transporting around the city per camp needs/schedule
- Promoting a participant's success through problem solving and inclusive practices.
- Must attend weekly staff meetings.
- Assist recreation leaders in keeping work environments clean and organized.
- Maintain positive communications with parents, program staff and other members of the public.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must be 15 years old (CSS I) or 16 years old (CSS II) prior to start of program.
- Desire to work with youth/teens with disabilities to promote social inclusion within the program through empathy, compassion and patience
- Possess the ability to work in-group settings and maintain effective working relationships with other program staff and community members.
- Must be able to swim at a level considered water safe and be comfortable participating in pool activities.
- Must have CPR and First Aid certificates by employment start date.
- Must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to, Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols, Mandated Reporter, Anti-Harassment and Discrimination, COVID-19 Safety Protocols, Blood Borne Pathogens, Heat Illness, etc.

- Respond to situations with proactive problem solving and understanding
- Must have an interest in working with and learning about youth with disabilities and learning differences.
- The ability to be open to versatility and last minute changes with your schedule including longer days and shortened days.
- All applicants will have the ability to communicate effectively with program participants, parents and co-workers.
- Experience and Training:
- Community Services Specialist I is an entry-level position, but having some experience with children is desirable.
- Community Services Specialist II is an entry-level position, but requires a minimum of one year of experience working with youth/teens with or without disabilities in a recreation program or similar setting. Additional education or comparable work experience may be substituted for a portion of the required work experience.
Staff should be prepared to work outdoors, in various environmental conditions each week. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, pollens and slip hazards when near water. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid.
