City of Davis Parks & Community Services offers various summer camps for youth, 6 to 12 years of age. Camp programs include Rainbow Summer, Summer Quest, Arts and Crafts Camp, Kids in the Kitchen, Kinder Camp, PM Kids Club, Teen Camp and Skate Camp. The Recreation Leader positions are responsible for ensuring a fun-filled, healthy, structured and comfortable environment for all. These positions assist in the planning, supervising and evaluating of all camp activities, including assisting with the supervision of camp volunteers, youth participants and camp activities.
Must be available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (schedules vary) from June through August, attend Monday or Tuesday evening staff meetings during the summer dates, and participate in mandatory trainings in late May to early June.Community Services Specialist I - $16.55 per hour
Temporary part time, no benefits. Applicants will be screened according to experience relevant to this position. Those most qualified will be invited to an individual or small group interview.
- Initiates, organizes and carries out a variety of recreation activities for elementary-aged children.
- Assists in the planning and coordinating of special events and trips.
- Directs arts and crafts, sports, games, drama, music, dance and other camp activities.
- Communicates with supervisory program staff regarding participant behavior, injuries, and other relevant matters.
- Renders routine first aid for minor injuries.
- Attends weekly staff meetings.
- Assures that all equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintained.
- Keeps work environments clean and organized.
- Assists in the direction and coordination of volunteers in conjunction with supervisory program staff.
- Must be 15 years or older prior to the start of the summer programs.
- Certified in CPR and Standard First Aid prior to the start of the summer camp program.
- Ability to demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and creativity in the job position.
- Ability to motivate and lead other program staff, volunteers and youth participants.
- Having knowledge of recreation activities, child development, behavior management practices and community resources is desirable.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with other program staff and community members.
- Having related experience working with children is highly desirable.
- Must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to, Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols, Mandated Reporter, Sexual Discrimination and Harassment, etc.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Staff should be prepared to work outdoors, in various environmental conditions each week. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, pollens and slip hazards when near water. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Must be able to complete additional trainings, including but not limited to: Concussion Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat Illness, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
