Responsibilities
The role of the Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF) is to provide basic fire prevention and suppression services to all City of Dayton Aviation facilities and to provide emergency medical and rescue services as needed. Duties include responding to fire alarms, providing emergency care where warranted, conducting rescue efforts involving aircraft passengers and crew members, and the care, cleaning and general maintenance of fire equipment and apparatus. The ARFF engages in regular training and drills in order to further develop and maintain firefighting proficiency while also participating in fire prevention education programs. Incumbents will also inspect commercial, industrial and other buildings for fire hazards, efficiency of fire protection equipment, adequacy of exits and fire escapes and general compliance with fire prevention laws, in addition to other job duties. Candidates with previous experience in Aircraft Fire Rescue are preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. at time of application.
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special Requirements
The following certifications and training must be obtained and maintained thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment :
- At time of application, must have a valid State of Ohio Level II Firefighter certification AND State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician certification and maintain until such time as the below listed Paramedic certification requirement is met. Paramedic certification is preferred at time of appointment.
- Within 30 months of the Paramedic class start date, must obtain and maintain State of Ohio Paramedic certification.
- Upon enrollment in an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification class, must obtain and maintain ACLS certification.
- Must complete an approved Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) initial training program in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 139 and complete annual recurring training in accordance with FAR 139.319.
- Within one year of appointment, must obtain and maintain State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification AND Hazardous Materials Operations certification.
Salary : $44,533 - $71,365
