Responsibilities
This position entails skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City of Dayton buildings and related structural facilities including HVAC, electrical systems and plumbing. Checks, services and repairs boilers, heating systems, hot water heating and steam condensate pumps. Services modern HVAC equipment such as heat pumps and geothermal heating and cooling systems. Performs skilled plumbing work, paints internal and exterior buildings, replaces and repairs ceramic and composition floor and wall coverings. Installs, maintains and repairs high voltage electrical circuits and equipment. Performs general carpentry work including construction, alteration and repair of roofs, stairways, doors, wood fixtures and furniture. Installs forms for cement work and pours and finishes cement for building beam footers.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.). Experience Must meet both of the following requirements : 1. Three years of experience in building maintenance including 2 years of experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of heating and cooling systems (HVAC). 2. Two years of skilled experience in the maintenance of residential, commercial or industrial electrical systems OR successful completion of an approved electrical training program.
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment. Within 90 days of appointment, must obtain an Ohio Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) as a condition of employment. Within 150 days of appointment, must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio. Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 150 days of appointment.
Promotional Qualifications
Must be a full-time permanent employee in pay grade 121 (Wage) or below, pay grade 29 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.
