Key Duties
- Plan and execute community development and economic development projects in the City of Dayton.
- Communicate, develop, and activate a comprehensive economic development program which utilizes community feedback to establish goals and measure performance.
- Work with new and existing partners to create and implement development incentives.
- Develop and implement strategies and goals for promotion of Dayton to outside business interests,coordinate economic development recruitment efforts utilizing various Economic Development tools.
- Schedule and conduct meetings with prospects, and attend economic development forums.

- The Director is an integral member of the City's leadership team. In order to be effective, the Director is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships inside and outside the City.
- Experience in economic development with a successful track record of creativity in problem solving and project planning.
- Ability to craft financial strategies with public and private partners.
- Knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations regarding land use and property development..
- Must be knowledgeable of the Open Meeting Act, Open Records Act, Records Retention Act, 4B Economic Development Sales Tax Legislation, Experience with Hotel Occupancy Tax regulations and other pertinent Federal, State and Local Laws, Codes and Regulations relating to general governmental management and economic development.
- May be required to work extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics or related field from an accredited college or university, or 8 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in economic development is required. Economic Development certification (CEcD) preferred;
- At least 5 years experience and quantifiable success in the field of Economic Development with a successful track record of creativity in problem solving and project planning is required.
- Familiarity and experience with planning and negotiating economic development incentives and use of other economic development tools.
- Experience with the development of Economic Development promotional literature
- A high degree of confidentiality and discretion with a strong focus on research, planning, and reporting
- Background and solid knowledge of municipal planning and land use planning as it relates to business development
- Ability to prepare grant proposals, applications, contracts and other necessary documents;
- Documented experience in media communication including web site, social media and print publications;
- Must have advanced computer skills which include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and will be responsible for maintaining and updating information on the City of Dayton's Economic Development website.
- A valid Class C Texas drivers license
- Must become a resident of the City of Dayton within six months
