Description
Purpose
The purpose of this classification is to inspect clean and maintain the sewer system mains for the City. Employees in this class operate high pressure equipment in clearing and cleaning lines and operate video equipment and machinery in locating blockages and inspecting lines. Performs related work as required.
Education; Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by minimum of two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving operation of heavy or complex equipment and/or machinery; with demonstrated aptitude to perform basic plumbing repair and maintenance.
Special Requirements
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” with tanker endorsement.
Drug Screening
NOTE: This position requires a drug screen. If applicant did not receive drug screening upon initial hire with the City; applicant will be required to submit to drug screening prior to accepting this position.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Operates assigned TV truck and mini-cam truck for cleaning and inspection of sewer lines and laterals. Cleans sewer lines with high velocity hydraulic cleaner and vactor and bucket machines to prepare line for inspection; assists in removing blockages. Opens manholes; positions camera unit in sewer lines; adjusts power control unit as required. Monitors video receiver for indications of line breaks or leakage. Prepares reports based on observations of video monitoring. Performs field repairs when possible; builds catch basins; seals manholes. Performs smoke and dye tests; spreads industrial chlorine. Cleans and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment according to prescribed standards. Participates in ensuring proper traffic device placement and safety precautions are adhered to prior to commencing with work orders; participates in traffic control. ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and the lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require odor perception and discrimination. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.

The work performance of non-supervisory personnel of the City of Daytona Beach is routinely evaluated according to the performance criteria outlined herein:
Knowledge of Work: Has considerable knowledge of the methods policies and procedures of the City of Daytona Beach as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of the Collection Line Technician. Has considerable knowledge of principles and practices of wastewater lines inspection maintenance and cleaning the safe and proper use of specialized video and pressurized cleaning equipment and basic plumbing knowledge of the methods materials and techniques used in lines repair. Has considerable knowledge of the laws ordinances standards and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has working knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has considerable knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertains to work responsibilities. Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel as well as any external entities with whom position interacts.
