General Description
Assist engineers and technicians in day to day activities. Responsibilities include assisting with surveys and construction staking, construction observation, maintaining records of construction, assisting with computations in the office, and miscellaneous office work.
Schedule: Typical work schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday with a 1/2 hour lunch and 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 am on Friday. Work schedules will vary depending on construction schedules and may require engineering aides to stay late to monitor construction projects.
Work Location: Office work is performed at the Municipal Service Center. Field work will be performed at various locations around the City.

Essential Functions
Duties may include assisting survey crew in field; performing staking; performing mathematical computations; assisting with field instructions; construction observation and data entry.
Engineering Aides work independently in the field and interpret construction plans and specifications. They are responsible to keep detailed records.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of principles of civil engineering. Ability to operate basic surveying equipment. Ability to use Excel and Word. Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time. Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software, including excel spreadsheets.
Good written and verbal communication skills.

- At least 18 years of age.
- One year college or technical school training in the Civil Engineering field highly desirable.
- Experience with surveying and construction inspection.
- Ability to work outdoors in the field in varying weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work outside of typical work hours.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record.
