What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crossing Guard (Regular & Substitute) position at City of De Pere?

The City of De Pere employs seventeen regular crossing guards plus substitute crossing guards during the school year.  Some have been employed in that capacity for over thirty years, and are immensely proud of their responsibility.

During the school year, Crossing Guards are assigned to a corner before and after school.  They are in place to guide children safely across the busy streets to school in the morning.  They return to make sure the morning kindergarten population gets home safe, and the afternoon session arrives on time.  The final assignment for the day is to guide the children towards the safety of their home and families.

In the rain, sleet, or snow, Crossing Guards are on duty at their stations ensuring safe passage across our busy streets and intersections.

Regular Crossing Guards work each day school is in session (7.5 hours per week).   Substitute Crossing Guards fill in when regular crossing guards are sick or unable to work.  Substitute hours will vary from week to week (from no hours to 7.5 hours per week).  Substitute positions may lead to a regular crossing guard assignment if a vacancy exists and with good work performance.
