This position is responsible for inspecting buildings to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances. Responsibilities may include performing inspections for construction and repair of buildings; reviewing construction plans; and responding to various inquiries from the public.These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.- Inspects the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings for compliance with codes, ordinances, and approved building plans and specifications; enforces codes and ordinances.
- Reviews building plans for compliance with codes and ordinances; approves or rejects plans based on findings.
- Inspects residential and commercial properties for compliance with codes and ordinances; approves or denies re-occupancy of properties; prepares suggestions for resolving non-compliance issues.
- Responds to code interpretation, building permit, and related inquiries from residents, contractors, and others.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.Associate's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- Act 407 Certification or obtain within 6 months of employment
- Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
