PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: Camp Dearborn in Milford, Michigan
HOURS/PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: Seasonal position – during the months of May – Early Sept.
Camp Dearborn is a seven-day operation. The schedule for this position will vary and will include weekends and holidays. Extended time off during this period is extremely limited. Most positions average 40 hours per week.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a seasonal position functioning as a college internship. The employee will gain experience in a variety of tasks, which vary depending on assignment. Routine tasks include recreational activity leadership, marketing assistance, event planning/implementation, guest relations, stacking firewood, emptying BBQ grilles & fire pits, picking up litter, comfort station maintenance, lake maintenance, rentals for paddle boats and Adventure Golf, point of sales, managing guest admission at various gates, working alongside of and assuming responsibility of Junior Park Attendants as necessary. Interns will also be required to design, coordinate, and implement a special program in the duration of this program (i.e. wellness activity, such as mindful workshop, yoga session, and health-focused activities).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize, facilitate, and execute a variety of recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises for campers/guests of all ages.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the campground, handling logistical tasks, coordinating schedules, and supporting overall camp management.
- Special project designed, coordinated, and implemented.
- Assist in maintaining grounds (cutting grass and maintaining visual satisfaction) and equipment and property (painting, cleaning, and basic repair work).
- May be assigned additional duties and responsibilities related to the operation of a recreation facility in the absence of, and as assigned by, the Camp Manager or Facility Coordinator.
- Works outdoors in extreme heat, rain or other unfavorable weather.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships.
- May serve as backup Lifeguard in the Camp Dearborn pool if properly certified to do so.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Must be an enrolled college student working to obtain a Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services, Events Management, or equivalent degree. Must possess valid driver’s license.
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory completion of background check and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.
