GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for performing journeyman-level electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work for City buildings and structures.
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, inadequate lighting, work space restricts movement, and travel.EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
Four-year electrical apprentice program; or, Associate’s degree and 3 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must Acquire within 6 Months of Hire:
Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Air Brake Endorsement, Aerial Platform Certification, Confined Space Training, Work Zone Safety Training
Must Acquire within 2 years of hire:
Level I Traffic Signal Technician
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory completion of background check and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act.

- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, transformers, switches, and related equipment and systems in City buildings and structures.
- Tests electrical components and determines repair needs; performs repairs as needed.
- Prepares estimates for time and material costs associated with daily work.
- Maintains records of completed work.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.
- Electrical principles and practices;
- Applicable tools and equipment;
- Applicable codes and ordinances;
- Occupational hazards and safe work methods and practices;
- Recordkeeping principles.
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment;
- Estimating time and material costs;
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with the general public and others to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
