This position is responsible for performing professional librarian functions in one or more assigned areas. Responsibilities include supervising staff; providing research and reference services to patrons; and recommending and implementing policies and procedures. This position will oversee functions for a single library branch.
- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; evaluating staff; coordinating staff training; and supporting personnel procedures.
- Performs and oversees a wide range of library tasks, including: assisting patrons in finding library resources; responding to various customer inquiries; attending required meetings and performing related tasks.
- Develops and maintains library collections; evaluates and acquires library materials; updates and maintains a library catalog.
- Recommends and implements reference, collection, and related policies.
- Develops programs for the public; creates communications outlining library services.
- Monitors use of funds to ensure work is completed within the library budget; prepares various reports outlining library operations.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Master’s degree in Library Science and 3 years of related library experience as well as some supervisory experience.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- Library of Michigan Level 2 Certification or ability to acquire within 60 days of hire
- Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License
