This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of vehicles for an assigned division. Responsibilities may include calibrating related systems; repairing various equipment and vehicles; and maintaining inventory. May act as lead worker to employees in lower classifications.
- Installs, calibrates, programs, operates, and/or repairs controls associated with salting streets and related systems.
- Repairs various equipment and vehicles, including: repairing sweepers; repairing pumps and valves; repairing plows; repairing bulldozers; repairing graders; and repairing related equipment and vehicles.
- Orders parts and supplies and maintains proper inventory levels.
- Trains staff in operating trucks and equipment.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, gases, chemicals, work space restricts movement, intense noise, and environmental threats.
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or Mechanical trade school and 1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver License Class A with N endorsement and all endorsements required by state law.
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory completion of DOT medical examination, driving record check, and criminal background check prior to start date.
- All appointees are subject to a one-year probationary period.
