This position is responsible for performing and overseeing complex, professional-level engineering tasks for engineering projects. Responsibilities may include managing projects; preparing engineering plans; and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. May supervise employees or oversee contractors.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 5 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION:
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory completion of background check and a drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.
- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; coordinating staff training; and supporting personnel procedures.
- Prepares engineering plans, design drawings, and/or specifications for capital improvement, sewer separation, street resurfacing, sidewalk repair, and related projects; obtains design, right-of-way, and related permits as required.
- Prepares related reports and presentations; gives presentations outlining proposed or ongoing engineering projects; responds to various inquiries and complaints from the public.
- Manages engineering projects, including: creating final designs; enforcing contractor compliance with specifications; overseeing construction contracts; monitoring costs to ensure work is completed within budget; approving contractor payments; and performing related tasks.
- Performs studies and prepares reports to assist in designing storm sewers and related materials.
- Reviews construction and other plans to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, codes, and standards.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.
