Job Summary
This position is responsible for inspecting construction sites for compliance with city codes and project specifications.
Major Duties
- Inspects construction sites for compliance with plans, specifications, and codes.
- Prepares inspection reports for submittal to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
- Issues notices of violations, stop work orders and citations as necessary.
- Oversees the city's pavement management plan; identifies and prioritizes road paving needs.
- Responds to complaints from the general public.
- Inspects drainage infrastructure.
- Develops project cost estimates.
- Inputs data into GIS system relative to curb ramps, paving projects, and other assigned projects.
- Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The City Engineer assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the ADEM regulations, subdivision regulations, city codes, project specifications, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
