Job Title: Crew Worker - Ground Maintenance
Reports to: Crew Supervisor
Department: Public Works
Work Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm weekdays; Seasonal Summer hours, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm; some weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency call-ins.
Starting Salary: $19.10 Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Purpose of Work:
The Crew Worker is responsible for enhancing the City's unique atmosphere by preserving and maintaining the City landscape. This position assists in creating an inviting environment for the community through landscaping, beautification, and maintenance of the City's parks, right-of-ways, ball fields, and undeveloped lots. Work involves the use of a variety of hand-operated power tools and landscape maintenance equipment. Assignments are given, and work is performed under the direct supervision of the Crew Supervisor.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs grounds maintenance work using a variety of specialized tools and light and heavy equipment.
- Operates vehicles, motorized equipment, and tools to perform landscaping work such as planting trees and shrubbery, maintaining lawns and athletic fields, and cleaning up debris and litter.
- Performs masonry work such as building retaining walls, sidewalks, catch basins, and other similar structures; pouring and finishing concrete; and other related work required to accomplish goals. Repairs and installs fences.
- Reports any safety hazards or maintenance problems to the Equipment Operator and Crew Supervisor.
- Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status and progress of work assignments to the supervisor and management.
- Demonstrates a commitment to safety by initiating, suggesting, and adhering to procedures to assure the highest risk management standards, employee safety, and risk avoidance.
- Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles.
- Performs other work as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Physical Requirements:
- HS Diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical school training preferred.
- Valid State of Georgia driver's license (Class C) with a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR).
- Work experience in performing comparable duties with similar equipment and tools.
- Ability to read and understand cemetery maps.
- Knowledge, ability, and skill in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment such as tractor, mower, backhoe, and dump truck, and hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (10-50 lbs.), bend, squat, twist, crawl, and climb on a daily basis.
- Ability to work in a variety of extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Must perform work while being exposed to dust, pollen, allergens, exhaust fumes, herbicide chemicals, etc.
- Must be available for emergency call-in on weekends, evenings, and holidays.
