What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Maintenance Tech I position at City of Deer Park?
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, pool maintenance.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a Facility Services Supervisor, Facility Services Crew Leader.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May act as a lead worker for Facility Maintenance team, part-time labors.Primary Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
2. Four years’ experience in repair and maintenance work, or
3. Any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
4. Certifications in Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or the ability to obtain all within 6 months of hire.
5. Valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
1. Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; Working knowledge of first aid and
applicable safety precautions.
2. Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
3. A knowledge of general maintenance procedures along with a skill set that includes basic proficiencies in some or all of the following: plumbing, carpentry, electrical/mechanical systems.
4. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
5. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
6. Knowledge of commercial size aquatics facilities and equipment operations.
7. Knowledge and understanding of the Texas Department of Health Standards for Public Pools
8. Knowledge of report and record maintenance principles and procedures.
9. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established City policies and procedures.
10. Maybe be required to obtain certifications or training in specialized areas as needed and assigned by the Facility Services Supervisor.
11. Ability to use Computer for report documentation
12. Aptitude for organizing tasks, manage time and prioritizing projects

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower-level employees.
- Maintains and assists with the installation and repair of lights in the City Facilities.
- Performs semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
- Performs on going preventive maintenance and repair work on facility.
- Perform facility inspections, prepare and submit reports of conditions in the building and recommend actions to be taken.
- Support any afterhours building needs and activities required.
- Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance functions.
- Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises. Opens and closes locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
- Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various buildings and recreation programs, prepares facilities for park and recreation program use.
- Keeps records of work completed.
- Assist with any additional job-related tasks as instructed by the Facility Services Supervisor, or Facility Services Crew Leader.
- Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. Drives recreation van on field trips as assigned.
- NIMS Certification Required
- Serves as a member of the City of Deer Park’s Emergency Management team
