Education and Experience:
Must have five (5) years hands on experience rebuilding, repair, and maintenance of gas and diesel equipment and air brake systems. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License (Class A or B) Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Safety toed shoes, safety glasses, lift belts, ear plugs, hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, computers, air tools, and technical manuals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

NoneESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains and repairs heavy and light mechanical equipment, parts and components. Performs unscheduled repair to departmental vehicles, cabs, packers, and equipment including hydraulic cylinders, alternators, starters and other major components.
- Repairs electrical and air conditioning systems, computer controlled engines and transmissions.
- Rebuilds, repairs, and maintains gas and diesel injection systems and air brake systems automotive heavy equipment, diesel and small engines.
- Clean and maintain equipment and shop tools (housekeeping duties).
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Three (3) years automotive competence in electronic equipment required.
- Considerable knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance for a specialized field, such as computer controlled engines and transmissions, gas and diesel injection systems and air brake systems, automotive heavy equipment, diesel and small engines.
- Ability to analyze data, diagnose problems or malfunctions, and choose best course of action for repair and execute plan.

- Position involves considerable physical exertion such as lifting, e.g. equipment and tools, up to 100 pounds and long periods of walking, standing and bending.
- Visual acuity of 20/40 in each eye without corrective lenses or 20/50 vision in each eye with corrective lenses.
- Required to work outdoors, subject to adverse weather conditions.
- Exposure to caustic substances in various chemicals.
- Exposure to respiratory hazards, e.g. fumes.
- Exposure to physical hazards such as large equipment on jacks and many moving parts.
- Exposure to loud to moderate noises due to pumps, motors and compressors.
- Exposure to vibration from engines.
