GENERAL PURPOSE Performs cash collections and customer service functions, routine clerical, data entry, simple bookkeeping and computer data entry for Central Collections Department (Utilities and Tax). SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the close supervision of the Department Director, Assessor Collector Manager, and may take direction from Deputy Tax Collector according to established work routine. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Customer service, cash collections, reconciling receipts and collections, data entry, generate computer and/or manually generated reports and records, prepare correspondence and other daily and monthly reports, support record maintenance file, retain and destroy records per records retention schedules within department, account maintenance tasks. Communicate with citizens and other departments and assist with inquires on records and applicable laws and procedures, answer phones, process incoming and outgoing mail, taxes and utility billing functions, printing, and mailing of statements, compose and respond to email and written correspondence from citizens, customers, and other departments. Perform various data entry, account reconciliation, and inquires on computer system and perform work on personal computers in both word processing, math related software, utility and tax software. Overtime as required, sometimes on short notice. May require some driving (i.e. bank, post office, courthouse, etc.). Must work well under pressure. Secretarial and business writing skills a plus. Personal appearance and dress will conform to that to be expected in a professional office environment. PERIPHERAL DUTIES Assists in data entry by collecting, organizing, and verifying accuracy of data before it is entered Extracts alphabetic, numeric, or symbolic data from original paper documents and enters data into a computer following a specified format Compares data entered into a computer with data listed on the original document, distributes mail
