What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer Firefighter position at City of Deer Park?
This is a volunteer, unpaid position.
Deer Park Volunteer Firefighters continuously answer the calls for emergency assistance within the municipal and industrial boundaries of the city of Deer Park. A volunteer firefighter may answer the call of assistance, once trained, to deliver fire suppression, rescue services, HazMat response, EMS assistance and public education as well as community events benefiting the citizens of Deer Park.
Essential Functions:
- Responds to fire alarms and extinguish fire
- Responds to calls for medical assists
- Responds to and renders assistance in emergencies
- Cleans and inspects equipment and apparatus after returning from a fire
- Inspects equipment and apparatus and notifies chain of command of any defects
- Keeps fire station, equipment and grounds in a clean and orderly condition
- Participates in weekly training drills
- Acquires and retains a thorough knowledge of the City, including streets, buildings, water supply, unusual hazards and related items
- Performs various public information, education or special event tasks
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City and Department policies and procedures
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- May respond to emergency calls for specialized services such as hazardous materials, industrial request for assistance or neighboring mutual aid request.
- May respond to non-emergency calls providing public service activities such as during major storms.
- May be assigned other duties by Fire Administration
- Be between the ages of 19 and 55 years of age
- Be of good moral character
- Have a valid Texas Driver’s License
- Pass a criminal background check
- Pass functional agility course
- Pass DOT physical exam (paid by DPVFD)
- Must live in Deer Park City limits
- Any false statement made by an applicant in his/her application, or otherwise, shall disqualify him/her
