What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Leader-Athletics/Parks Maintenance position at City of Deerfield Beach?
Performs a variety of work related to program and event set up, transporting equipment, material, and supplies. Also performs routine work cleaning facilities. May direct the work of laborers and semi-skilled workers engaged in operating equipment and manual labor activities. Depending on level and area of assignment may operate light or heavy Parks and Recreation vehicles and equipment.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Responsible for performing tasks of normal difficulty involving the safe operation of assigned Parks & Recreation equipment
- Collects payments.
- Inspects and evaluates the condition of heavy and light equipment to ensure every item is clean, safe, and in proper working order for users. Coordinates all repairs and related corrective measures with Sustainable Management Fleet Division.
- May operate vehicles of all types, and other hand tools and equipment as required, drives vehicles to city sites.
- Participates in development of preventive maintenance procedures for special events equipment.
- Responsible for overseeing the logistics of the special events set up and break down.
- Responsible for maintaining the special events warehouse.
- Assists with the preparations and coordination of all activities pertaining to hurricanes/storms.
- Responds to emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.
- Attends meetings as required and participates in the training and or cross training of the department’s personnel.
- Trains, supervises, inspects the work of and works beside subordinate personnel
- Operates vehicles to pick up and deliver equipment, materials, and supplies, and deliver as assigned.
- Assists with opening and closing facilities and with general facility maintenance.
- Cleans and maintains vehicles and equipment, ensures all facility equipment is in good working condition.
- May use hand tools and power tools in conjunction with equipment being operated or tasks being performed.
- Follows established city rules and regulations related to the operational use of vehicles and equipment.
- Assists with tracking the inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment

- Maintains a working knowledge of the complex needs of a wide variety of events.
- Activity and Special event set up, load in, and load out including but not limited to tables, chairs, ice, beverage coolers, barricades, trash cans, large tents, and large movie screens.

- Maintains athletic fields, drag dirt fields, chalk and paint foul lines, repair high-traffic areas near bases, judge the playability of surfaces after rain, inclement weather, etc.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in parks and athletics maintenance or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
- Knowledge of the safety practices and methods in driving and maintaining vehicles.
- Knowledge of the Deerfield Beach geographic areas.
- Skill in the operation of light to medium automotive equipment.
- Ability to work from maps.

- Ability to deal effectively with the general public and other City employees.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and to provide accurate reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

WORK HOURS:
Saturday-Friday: Days/Hours will vary based on program and event needs. (May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business/program needs of the City. Hours may change based on program, event and operational needs.)
