GENERAL FUNCTION:
This is work in the operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Facility. Employees in this class have the responsibility for the operation and general maintenance of wastewater treatment machinery, equipment and facilities. Employees maintain various logs and work records for an assigned shift. Work is performed with some latitude for the use of independent judgment in the selection of work methods and procedures and is reviewed by observation and analysis of written reports and plant records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Acts as Operator in the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment facility and maintains daily log of plant operations.
· Checks digester level and draws off supernate and digested sludge as necessary.
· Maintains a neat and clean work environment.
· Operates sludge belt press.
· Collects samples and assists in performing chemical analysis and tests.
· Performs preventive maintenance and necessary repair work on machinery and equipment.
· Assists in training new Operators.
· Operates sludge disposal equipment.
· Performs related work as required.
· Employee is subject to shift work, holiday duty, working weekends and call-back without notice. Toxic and noxious odors and uncomfortable working conditions exist. Employee is subject to outdoor weather conditions daily and subject to significant health and job hazards.
· Intermittent heavy physical activity is required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
· Knowledge of mechanical equipment relative to wastewater treatment and of their techniques for general servicing and maintenance.
· Knowledge of the processes involved in the treatment of wastewater including some knowledge of chemistry.
· Knowledge of the hazards involved in plant operations and of the safety precautions to be taken.
· Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment in operations to detect defects and to make minor repairs.
· Ability to read meter and charts accurately and to maintain operating log records accurately and concisely.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees and to direct assigned assistants in routine work.
· Willingness to assume responsibility for work performed and decisions made.
· Ability to work steadily and quickly.
· Skill in recording information accurately.
· Skill in accurately communicating information related to operations of equipment.
· Ability to follow instructions, both oral and written.
· Skill in remaining alert to any malfunctions of the plant system.
· Skill in the English language in speaking, reading and writing.
· Manual dexterity.
· Ability to learn.
· Must obtain a Class “D” Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification License within 6 months of employment.
· Possession of an Oklahoma State Driver License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
· Ability to operate heavy transport and injection equipment.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduation from high school or vocational school or equivalent combination of experience and training.
· Specialized higher education coursework in environmental sciences.
· Over-the-road tractor/trailer driving experience.
· Experience in water/wastewater utilities or other related field.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND GIVEN:
Works under the direct supervision of the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor and the Assistant Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor. May supervise work of trainees and/or assigned assistants.
This job classification has been designated a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.

Pay: $19.00 - $24.79 per hour
