JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Department Supervisor as may be assigned, responsible for performing cashiering and clerical work, requiring a specialized knowledge of departmental/division operations, engages in public contact both in person and by telephone; handles detailed and complex records; aids co-workers in detailed situations; will handle payment transactions.
Issuing permits: Issue building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical permits
Scheduling inspections: Schedule inspections for commercial and residential properties
Customer service: Respond to public inquiries and requests about permits
Processing applications: Review applications for completeness and direct applicants to the appropriate department for more information
Calculating fees: Calculate fees for permits, including plan check, building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other permits
Verifying licenses: Verify that contractors' licenses are current and active
Maintaining records: Maintain records of business transactions, correspondence, and other documents
Preparing reports: Prepare reports, such as letters, memos, and affidavits
Assisting with data collection: Assist with data collection and records organization and retention
