MUSEUM DOCENT

Reports To: Parks & Recreation Director Wage: $16.00/hr
Position Type: Part-Time Hours: 20 hrs/week
Job Summary:
The Docent conducts guided tours of the museum for individuals and groups of all ages. Docent will provide information regarding museum exhibits and the history of The DeLand Memorial Hospital and Veterans Museum. Docent will be responsible for keeping informed on all information regarding changes to the displays or other information pertaining to the museum.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•
Opening and closing of the museum.
•
Ensure that doors and displays are always secured.
•
Deliver education programs and interpret museum exhibits.
•
Ensure tours are delivered in a timely manner.
•
Stay informed on changes to the exhibits and the museum.
•
Ensure program materials are properly handled and maintained.
•
Assist with the set up and take down of any program materials.
•
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
•
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from an U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is required.
•
Some experience in customer service and cash handling procedures is required.
•
Some knowledge on the history of DeLand is required.
•
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
•
Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
•
Must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified or get certified within six (6) months of hire.
•
Must pass a state of Florida Level 2 background check.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
•
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
•
Ability to present history and facts.
•
Ability to provide good customer service and deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.
•
Ability to establish and maintain effective working and good personal relationships with City employees, City officials, civic groups and the general public.
