Reports To: Parks & Recreation Director
Salary: $51,480 - $68,120 DOQ
Position Type: Full-Time Hours: 40 hrs/week
Job Summary: This position directs the City’s parks and recreation program. The employee in this class is responsible for the general administration, development and direction of a dynamic recreation program for all groups, ages and interest levels within the City and for developing and maintaining an adequate park and playground system and the necessary physical facilities to make programs effective.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote and schedule special event activities in Earl Brown Park.
- Program activities to meet the recreational and leisure time needs of the community.
- Organize and supervise all programs in activities center.
- Schedule and supervise day trips throughout the year including monthly luncheons.
- Supervise rental contracts for the activities center.
- Public relations with other DeLand organizations, businesses, and civic groups.
- Maintain telephone and personal contact for both Center activities and public information.
- Schedules any extra activities in the Center.
- Attend monthly senior council meetings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreational or Parks Administration or related field is required.
- Extensive professional recreation experience or graduate work in recreational or parks subjects is required.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide good customer service and deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.
- Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City officials, other agency officials, public groups and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
- The applicant must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as legal documents, personnel forms, and data sheets.
- The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of community recreation and parks work and its administration.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methods of park and playground planning and development.
- Ability to develop, promote and maintain high moral and enthusiasm.
