This full-time position monitors, controls and prevents situations hazardous to the health and safety of pool patrons through alert, responsive observations. Execute rescue procedures promptly and efficiently when necessary. Work is performed under general supervision.The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. Essential Job Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Observe and monitor pool patrons; enforce pool rules.
- Provide first aid care for minor injuries.
- Regulate activities which may threaten pool patrons or property.
- Make water rescues in various situations.
- Provide resuscitative care (CPR) and Basic Life Support until EMS personnel arrive.
- Administer oxygen, perform CPR, and use an Automatic External Defibrillator as required
- Assist with routine facility maintenance.
- Assist with swim lesson instructions.
- Complete physical and skills training as assigned on a daily basis.
- Ability to work some nights, holidays and weekend.
- Must be available to work four (4) mandatory special events (July 4th, Tree Lighting, Holiday Parade, and St Patrick’s Parade).
- Responsible for the development of aquatic based recreational programming
- Responsible for aquatic educational programming and outreach.
- Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
Minimum Qualifications
All Employees must possess and maintain the following valid certificates:
In addition to the above requirements, employees in this job category will perform one of the following assignments:- High school diploma or acceptable general equivalent diploma
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License, with a good driving record
- American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training or equivalent
- Successfully pass the Pool Lifeguard Test semi-annually.
Swim Team Coach
- Experience with swim team development. USA Swim Coach Certification preferred.
- Experience creating and implementing programs geared toward education and safety.
- Experience working with school aged children and summer camp programs.
- Experience creating and implementing aquatic based recreational programming
- Experience teaching aquatic fitness classes.
Knowledge of Basic Life Support procedures. Knowledge of lifesaving and resuscitative techniques and procedures. Knowledge of Pool rescue operations, protocols and rescue procedures. Ability to run and swim with strength and endurance. Skill in using tools to perform routine equipment maintenance. Proficiency in administering oxygen, performing CPR, and using an Automatic External Defibrillator. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all pool patrons. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
