Summary of Position:
The intern will assist with advanced technical work in crime scene investigation. Work involves assisting in processing of scenes, photography, evidence identification and collection with associated report preparation. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Crime Scene Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with mentor to conduct crime scene investigations.
- Assist with photograph and video record crime scenes and vehicle collision scenes.
- Assist with collecting and preserving physical evidence at crime scenes.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Qualifications: Current college student and has taken courses in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or closely related subject.
Learning Goals
- Learn the varied duties and job functions of the Investigative Division and how each duty and function assist with the Police Department Goals.
- Develop a working knowledge of managing a variety of Investigative situations simultaneously.
- Gain a better understanding of the Delray Beach Police Department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current college student or recent graduate majoring in Forensic Science, Criminology, Political Science, Business Administration, Photography, and related field.
