Essential Job Duties
Summary of Position:
The intern will assist with Accounting, Budget, and Treasury projects as assigned by Mentors and Finance Team.
Essential Job Functions
- Work with mentor to set development goals to satisfy college internship requirements
- Research and complete assigned projects in a timely manner by working closely with the Finance Department Team.
- Benchmark accounting and finance procedures by accessing related websites and contacting other municipalities and counties.
- Apply financial and accounting skills to identify and streamline required repetitive procedures, as well as testing of internal controls.
- Acquire knowledge of City Finance Department functions
- Assist with other Finance projects as needed.
- Strong accounting and/or finance skills
- Organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and citizens
- Be detailed oriented with problem solving skills
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office 2010 and Internet research
- Knowledge of City’s Finance Department Functions
- Understanding the role of City Accountant and the City’s Budget Process
- Knowledge of governmental accounting
- Ability to work independently.
