Description
This position serves as the primary point of contact for visitors at the Discover Denison Visitor Center. The Welcome Representative will provide assistance with directions, information requests, and promote local attractions. The role also includes administrative support and visitor services for the Tourism Manager as well as individual travelers and groups. The individual must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Staff the Discover Denison Visitors Center
- Provide a welcoming and informative experience for visitors, offering directions and information on local attractions, events, and activities.
- Initiate communication with Short Term Rentals advising of requirements and resources
- Assist in planning and coordinating small events, group visits, and meetings hosted at the visitor center.
- Assist with the creation, ordering, and restocking of merchandise for the visitor center.
- Answer phone calls, respond to email inquiries, and maintain organized files.
- Fulfill Visitor Guide requests, maintains accuracy and timeliness of website listings and printed materials
- Assist in organizing, filling, and distributing visitor bags for groups, including contacting visitor groups for the number of bags needed and arranging pick-up.
- Order office supplies and brochures from local venues, ensuring the lobby area is always stocked with up-to-date brochures and materials.
- Maintain a clean, inviting lobby area and ensure brochures are readily available for visitors.
- Support the Discover Denison team with additional tasks as needed
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with the public and co-workers in a professional manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn other software tools as needed.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and provide accurate, timely information.
- Knowledge of local Denison attractions, businesses, and events, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to maintain detailed records and reports
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats.
- Ability to manage interruptions and multitask while ensuring a positive visitor experience.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the general public
- Ability to read and interpret policies and materials
- Ability to use sound judgment in directing public and fulfilling customer service needs/requests
- Highly skilled in customer service practices to quickly and efficiently tend to visitor’s needs
- Ability to maintain consistent and timely attendance
- Ability to work varied hours consistent with downtown businesses, to include Saturdays
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have High School diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 2 years of experience in a customer service or similar setting.
- Poise, tact, patience and pleasant demeanor for public and interoffice contact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in tourism or visitor services preferred.
