Summary

Responsible for the administrative and daily operations of the Police Department quartermaster unit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES


  • Oversee acquiring, issuing, and reclaiming police equipment and uniforms including, but not limited to, pants, shirts, vest carriers, jackets, hats, belts, body armor, pepper spray, handcuffs, flashlights, and badges.
  • Maintain accurate records using the department software to ensure control of equipment and uniform inventory.
  • Ensure items are properly ordered, received, accounted for, stored, secured, and issued to department staff; conduct inventory audits according to department policy.
  • Adhere to State and City of Denton purchasing policies and any applicable mandated requirements.
  • Research new equipment and uniform options; stay up to date on current on developments and innovations within the industry.
  • Assist in monitoring the budget and annual operating expenses; ensure rates, fees and payments are consistent with established contract limits and monitoring purchases throughout the year.
  • Review expenses, inventory, and available budget to align with established contract limits by forecasting funds needed for uniform replacement.
  • Submit department uniform and equipment improvement proposals that maintains and/or improves fiscal responsibility.
  • Routinely coordinate with vendors regarding uniforms and equipment; perform minor repairs on equipment or returns equipment to manufacturer for repairs, as appropriate.
  • Review all repaired equipment to ensure it has been properly repaired; notify leadership immediately if items have been returned but are not ready to be utilized.
  • Properly dispose of unserviceable equipment and uniforms.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain equipment readiness and inventory; operate City vehicle to pick up items from area vendors, as needed.
  • Prepare, maintain, and complete forms, reports, inventory records, bulletins, reference documents and other documentation, as appropriate.
  • Train new personnel on equipment use; create training and reference materials, as needed.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and,
  • Two (2) years’ experience in inventory control, warehouse, police equipment, general office supply management, or related field,
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Skill in moderate problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Skill at the intermediate level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work.
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to review, inventory, track and project future inventory and/or supply needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to handle records and complex situations of a confidential nature.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with team environment while handling multiple tasks and changing priorities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop, understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures operations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business).
  • Must meet civilian hiring standards of the Denton Police Department.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

SAFETY

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer, peripherals, and tablet; department equipment including, but not limited to, scanners, cameras, motorized vehicles, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Environment: Works in an office setting with occasional exposure to inclement weather, noise, dirt, dust, chemicals, and odors; may move mechanical parts with exposure to heights, fumes and/or airborne particles, and potentially hazardous conditions including risk of electrical shock and/or vibration; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, after normal business hours, holidays, weekends, and during emergencies, as needed.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
