DUTIES
- Operate heavy complex motorized equipment over 100,000 pounds as well as common and precision power and hand tools to perform skilled duties to complete site maintenance.
- Inspect and check equipment before and after use, perform minor maintenance activities, report issues and problems to leadership immediately.
- Ensure site is compliant with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules and regulations.
- Assist and respond to customer issues; notify leadership immediately if not able to resolve concerns.
- Assist in training new crewmembers.

- High School diploma or equivalent; and,
- One (1) year experience in heavy equipment operator, or related field,
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work environment to facilitate/accomplish needed activities.
- Ability to document all adjustments necessary and approved to complete the project.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.
- Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business).
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

- Tools/Equipment Used: Equipment use may include but is not limited to hand and power tools, trash compactor, bulldozer, scraper, track loader, excavator, articulated dump truck, articulated water truck and scraper, backhoe, skid steer, forklift, and HDPE poly fusion machine; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Posture: Frequent sitting while operating equipment; moderate balancing, standing, walking, and climbing stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, climbing, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions. Ability to climb steep grade greater than 33%.
- Lifting: Lifting no more than 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Works outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold humidity, and inclement weather, steep slopes, noise, dust, chemicals, odors, heights, potentially hazardous conditions, uneven ground, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
- Must maintain accessibility to respond to emergencies at all hours, if needed.
- Must be able to work overtime and holidays, as needed.
- Must be able to work identified department schedule.
