Responsible for leading swim classes for a wide variety of age groups/skill levels.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
- Instruct and/or assist with swim classes, camps, and/or private swim lessons; assist with aquatic programming.
- Administer periodic tests; recommend reassignments, as appropriate.
- Complete accurate recordkeeping including, but not limited to, attendance records, completion, and issuance of certificates to participants.
- Promote aquatic programming to participants and patrons through communication and education.
- Stay up to date on American Red Cross certification information including, but not limited to, instructor updates, training, and in-services.

- Must have American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification.
- Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment or completed at the next City of Denton offered course (online training is not valid).

- Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

- Must be able to swim and be prepared handle emergencies.

- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; kickboards, noodles, and other aquatic teaching aides.
- Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Lifting no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Works prolonged time in chlorinated water, inside and/or outside in 90-105 degree heat; exposure to inclement weather, noise, debris, odor, and chemicals; may incur emersions of up to two (2) hours in pool water, typical water temperature of 78-90 degrees; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
- Must be able to work overtime or outside of normal business hours, as required.
- Must be available for position trainings during the designated timeframe outlined for program.
- Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
- Must be able to work the designated summer seasonal program schedule, dates will adjust annually, Monday - Friday with shift times varying between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
