POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION:
This is technically skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a 21 MGD conventional Wastewater Treatment Plant along with a 0.375 MGD SBR treatment plant. This position requires independent working abilities on an assigned shift and may be required to be on a rotating shift. The facility is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The operator (Technician) must demonstrate flexibility and be willing to accommodate changes in the work schedule as required to provide vacation and general leave coverage for coworkers. The Plant Operator will receive training and instruction to learn the essential functions of a Plant Operator I-IV. This is a safety sensitive position.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. Starting position and pay for Plant Operators is also dependent on the applicants current TCEQ Wastewater Plant Operator’s certification, as follows:
Responsible for completing maintenance and maintaining proper operation of 2 Wastewater Treatment Plants to ensure all Federal and State effluent quality standards are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES- Monitor plant operations by observation, instrumentation, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and laboratory test results; make process control adjustments under the supervision of a licensed operator, as directed.
- Interpret technical data using SCADA, Information Management Systems, graphs, and charts.
- Monitor the condition of various mechanical and process equipment; notify appropriate personnel for needed repairs.
- Operate hand tools to heavy, complex equipment; observe all safety guidelines established by the City of Denton.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment.
- Maintain thorough logs and records.
WATER RECLAMATION TECHNICIAN I DUTIES
- Assist with performing various lab tests; learn to interpret the results to ensure appropriate plant function.
- Assist with operational problem troubleshooting using historical trending, data, and lab results.
WATER RECLAMATION TECHNICIAN II DUTIES
- Assist with performing various lab tests; learn to interpret the results to ensure appropriate plant function.
- Assist with operational problem troubleshooting using historical trending, data, and lab results.
WATER RECLAMATION TECHNICIAN III DUTIES
- Complete operational problem troubleshooting using historical trending, data, and lab results.
- Perform various lab tests and interpret the results to ensure appropriate plant function.
WATER RECLAMATION TECHNICIAN IV DUTIES
- Train new employees including, but not limited to, operational procedures, safety protocols and procedures, and process control of a water reclamation plant; provide trainee progress to leader, as directed.
- Assist with development of standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- Perform various lab tests and interpret the results to ensure appropriate plant function.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:Water Reclamation Tech I
- High School diploma or equivalent; and,
- One (1) year experience in mechanical equipment operation/use, or related field; and,
- If not already possess, must have and maintain valid Grade “D” Wastewater Treatment License issued from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 24 months of employment,
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- High School diploma or equivalent; and,
- Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical equipment operation/use, or related field; and,
- Must have valid Grade “C” Wastewater Treatment License issued from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ),
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- High School diploma or equivalent; and,
- Three (3) years’ experience in mechanical equipment operation/use, or related field; and,
- Must have valid Grade “B” Wastewater Treatment License issued from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ),
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- High School diploma or equivalent; and,
- Six (6) years’ experience in mechanical equipment operation/use, or related field; and,
- Must have valid Grade “A” Wastewater Treatment License issued from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ),
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within six (6) months of employment.

- Depending on Water Reclamation Technician Level:
SAFETY
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; require use of hand and pneumatic tools, grinders, hoists, forklift, dump truck, and motor vehicle; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Posture: Prolonged sitting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
