What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician position at City of Des Moines?
Under general supervision, to install, maintain, and repair electrical power and service wiring, control panels, motors, and related electrical equipment; and to do related work as required.
- Graduation from high school; AND
- Four years of experience in electrical wiring and equipment installation and maintenance of electrical power, service, and lighting systems; OR
- An equivalent combination in which two years of additional experience may be substituted for one year of education or one year of supplementary specialized training in electricity may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
- Must possess at time of application and maintain a Journeyman Class A license.
- Installs and repairs conduits, high and low voltage systems, lighting circuits, panels, regulators, emergency power generators, transformers, relays, circuit breakers, switch boxes, and related electrical fixtures and equipment.
- Wires buildings, installs and repairs electrical receptacles and breaker switches.
- Inspects wiring and appliances for safe condition and need for replacement, using electrical test equipment to determine condition of electrical operating equipment.
- Installs and maintains underground cable.
- Repairs motors and switch gears.
- Maintains electrical circuits and equipment for automatic air conditioning and heating equipment, air compressors, and related equipment.
- Estimates material and equipment required for installation of electrical systems.
