- Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in algebra and geometry; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties

- Acts as head or rear chair bearer in a field survey party.
- Takes measurements with tape or chain.
- Drives stakes and clears brush, carries and cares for survey instruments, tools and vehicles.
- Assists on level or transit work; sets and marks grade stakes, hubs and turning points; constructs bench marks and monuments; marks in field and records high water during floods.
- Makes simple computations and field notes; prepares cross sections, profiles, mass diagrams and charts.
- May act as relief instrument person; performs non professional engineering work not involving the use of complex formulae.
- May perform simple engineering drafting and other surveying and simple drafting duties as directed.
- May perform other related non professional duties involving Engineering and Public Works.
- Performs related work as required.
