What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern position at City of Des Peres?
The City of Des Peres is accepting applications for the position of Civil Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department. The City intends to hire one Civil Engineering Intern for the summer, who will gain real-world experience in civil engineering and construction management. City staff will also provide networking opportunities and connections that frequently lead to full-time placement with engineering consultants, contractors, and DOTs.
Primary responsibilities will include construction management and inspections for street reconstruction projects, field surveys of infrastructure to determine necessary repairs, asset management with GIS, and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word is required. A valid Driver’s License and clean driving record are required. Preferred candidates include civil engineering or construction management students who have completed at least one year in college. Candidates must demonstrate responsibility and reliability while working on their own and with others. The selected candidate will be provided a work vehicle, laptop, and all necessary tools.
Proposed period of employment is mid-May through mid-August, 2025. There may be an opportunity for continued part-time employment during the fall semester for local candidates. Salary range is $19-$20 per hour. No benefits are included other than social security and workers compensation as required by law.
