Job purpose
The Senior Services Assistant supports the daily operations and programming of the Desert Hot Springs Senior Center. This role involves assisting with various activities, providing administrative support, and ensuring a welcoming environment for all senior center members. The ideal candidate will be organized, compassionate, and committed to enhancing the lives of older adults. The Senior Services Assistant helps create a vibrant and inclusive environment that encourages social interaction, physical activity, and lifelong learning.

Duties and responsibilities
Program Support :
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, educational, and social activities for senior members.
- Facilitate and monitor lunch program to ensure safety, engagement, and accuracy.
- Help set up and clean up after events and activities.
Member Services :
Assist receptionist in greeting senior center members and visitors, providing information about programs and services.Register new members and handle membership renewals in collaboration with receptionist.Respond to member inquiries and resolve any issues or concerns.Administrative Duties :
Maintain accurate records of program attendance and membership data in CivicRec.Assist with the preparation and distribution of newsletters, flyers, and other communications.Handle phone calls, emails, and other correspondence as needed.Helps assist is preparation of reports for cooling center, farmers market, and RSVP, and WEX programs.Assist with monthly program and room schedule review.Facility Management :
Ensure the senior center is clean, organized, and safe for all users.Report any maintenance or repair needs to the Senior Services Director.Community Engagement :
Assist in promoting senior center programs and services within the community.Support outreach efforts to increase membership and participation.Supervision :
Supervise and coordinate the activities of volunteers assisting with programs and events.Provide guidance and support to volunteers, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.Conduct volunteer training and orientation sessions as needed.Other Duties :
Assist with special projects and events as assigned.Provide support to other staff members as needed.Typical Qualifications
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in gerontology, social work, or a related field is a plus.Previous experience working with older adults or in a senior services environment preferred.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable with learning new software.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Compassionate, patient, and respectful toward older adults.Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.Must pass a background check and have a valid driver's license.Ability to obtain a food handlers card.Ability to obtain CPR certification.Supplemental Information
Working conditions
Work is performed primarily in an indoor environment with occasional outdoor activities.
May require working occasional evenings or weekends for special events or programs.
Physical requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.Ability to perform tasks that may require physical exertion.
