Definition: Under the direct and general supervision of the City Engineer, this position performs paraprofessional engineering office and filed work involving technical drafting, surveying, inspection, design and construction of public works facilities, and provides assistance and information to the public. Supervision received/exercised: Received direct supervision from the City Engineer.

Retrieves information and records for staff members.Keeps abreast of current engineering principles and practices, technology and regulations that apply to City engineering projects. Knowledge and Application of: Civil engineering terminology, principles, and practices applicable to office and field work involving the use of civil engineering software and associated equipment in the design, construction and maintenance of City public works projects.Common public works construction methods and materials, including construction safety procedures.Field data collection and analyses methods.Drafting and surveying principles, techniques, practices, and equipment; and computer programs.Engineering mathematics through trigonometry with concepts applicable to engineering, construction practices and methods.Methods and techniques of public works inspections.Understand and enforce NPDES requirements.Standard office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.Computer applications related to engineering mathematics, traffic planning and design and drafting problems.Operation of CAD systems.Standard drafting tools and equipment.
