The purpose of the position is to provide paraprofessional support to the professional staff with the management of the children, adult, youth, technical, and historical areas. This is accomplished by providing assistance and information to patrons; researching reference questions; maintaining documents and reports; installing hardware, software and peripherals; assisting with programs and projects; and ordering and maintaining materials. Other duties include processing library materials; maintaining records and databases; and preparing or presenting special programs.Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Provides library assistance to patrons by aiding them in the use of hardware, software and peripherals; assisting with patron wireless access; researching reference questions and working the reference desk; responding to and resolving difficult questions; processing interlibrary loans; and by instructing patrons in research methods.Provides information to the public by answering the telephone; creating and distributing publicity, correspondence, and newsletters; and scheduling and presenting workshops, programs and special meetings.Promotes library use and access by presenting information to civic groups, school users and other interested parties.Manages library processes and building by supervising staff; and maintaining building and surrounding areas.Ensures availability and access to materials by updating records of damaged materials and interlibrary materials; processing borrowed materials; updating or creating user manuals; maintaining catalogs of collections, databases, and inventories; and by performing minor maintenance on machines and equipment as required.Qualifications
High School Graduation or equivalentOne year of experience working with the publicSupplemental Information
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officialsAbility to present programs and materials to the publicSkill in the operation and use of hardware and peripherals plus standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products
