What are the responsibilities and job description for the Training Supervisor position at City of DeSoto?
The purpose of this position is to coordinate, develop, and train employees in the answering of emergency communications and dispatching of first responders. This is accomplished by developing and updating training manuals; facilitating training and follow up; researching and scheduling continuing education activities; monitoring transmissions and calls; evaluating performance; and assigning follow up training. Other duties include completing, monitoring and reporting on quality assurance processes.
- Develops and reviews emergency processes by researching training processes; identifying skills; reviewing requirements; updating manuals and standards; revising workbooks and class instructional materials; communicating with supervisors, dispatchers and management; and reviewing mandated training classes and certifications.
- Schedules and facilitates training classes by creating schedules; posting and advertising information; discussing certifications with supervisors; and delivering classes.
- Ensures training compliance by tracking attendance; maintaining records; submitting documents to regulatory agencies; monitoring performance; tracking statistics; and maintaining certifications;
- Ensures department maintains CALEA Public Safety Communications Accreditation and Association of Public Safety Communications Training Program Certification; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Associate's Degree preferred
- One year of supervision in an emergency communications center
- Three years of experience answering emergency communications
- Possession of TCOLE, TLETS, TCIC/NCIC Basic Certifications
- Possession of APCO EMD Certification
- Possession of Communications Training Officer Certification
- Position requires the ability to work nights and weekends, as this is a 24/7 facility with varying shifts
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations regarding emergency calls and operations, and standard operating procedures for emergency call centers
- Skill in adult learning techniques
- Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products
- Skill in the development, review and analysis of data related to emergency operations
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials
