Job Title: Stormwater Maintenance Technician

Reports To: Field Operations Supervisor

SUMMARY: Supports the City’s Stormwater Management Program by performing a variety of critical duties, including: storm sewer system cleaning and maintenance, inspections of system components, evaluation of commercial and residential stormwater management features, installation of stormwater controls, and operation of specialized stormwater maintenance equipment (e.g., Street Sweeper and PipeHunter). Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Regulatory Compliance & Inspection Duties
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: High school education, experience in Public Works or Utilities, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and office equipment operation. A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required.

- Locate, review, and apply relevant policies, codes, ordinances, regulations, and statutes related to stormwater management.
- Conduct inspections of storm sewer system components, including inlets, culverts, outfalls, retention systems (public and private), and roadside swales.
- Perform Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping Inspections at City and commercial facilities to ensure compliance with stormwater management best practices.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of stormwater management controls in accordance with City regulations and environmental standards.
- Operate and maintain the City’s Street Sweeper (Commercial Driver’s License preferred) and Storm Sewer Cleaning Equipment (e.g., PipeHunter).
- Perform preventative maintenance on department equipment to ensure proper functionality and longevity.
- Assist with stormwater infrastructure improvements, such as drainage repairs and erosion control measures.
- Respond to stormwater-related emergencies, including flooding, system blockages, and infrastructure failures.
- Set up traffic controls, pumping systems, and temporary containment measures to mitigate stormwater hazards.
- Provide emergency response support for tree removal, debris clearance, and other public works operations as needed.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, including after-hours and weekend availability.
- Maintain accurate inspection logs, work orders, and maintenance records.
- Prepare reports using Microsoft Word and Excel to document inspection findings, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance.
- Stay informed on stormwater management policies, key functions, and operational processes through self-directed learning and training.
- Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management to support stormwater infrastructure maintenance and public safety.
