The Recreation Director is seeking a responsible individual to perform administrative and supervisory work in the operation of Dover Recreation Programs and Facilities. Works closely with the Assistant Recreation Director and Recreation Director in program planning, administrative assignments and facility scheduling.
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week exempt position. $1,018.00 to $1,474.00 per week. Position is open until filled.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in recreation, physical education or a related area. Experience in recreation program development and implementation with progressive supervisory responsibility. Valid motor vehicle operator license. Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED required. Certified Basketball Official with IAABO or have the ability to become a Certified basketball Official with IAABO within 18 months of date of hire.

- Coordinate the development and implementation of recreation programs for citizens
- Participate in the supervision of the Recreation Center
- Identify and resolve potential safety hazards. Help to maintain and enforce safety rules and regulations
- Supervise seasonal staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of community recreation programs
- Supervise classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs and co-sponsored programs
- Select, plan and implement physical activities, special interest activities and special community events. Assist in the development, scheduling and implementation of activities, classes and programs
- Coordinate opening and closing of the Recreation Center facilities
- Prepare and distribute a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers and related communications regarding programs for publication
- Maintain equipment, personnel and supplies at a level consistent with budget
- Establish and maintain necessary and appropriate records of Recreation Center operations and activities. Prepare and present routine, cyclical and special reports associated with operations of the Center
- Schedule and conduct various special events throughout the year. Special events to include entertainment or camps
- Oversee and document collection of fees for memberships and programs and submit regular deposits
- Respond to public inquiries about Recreation programs made by telephone, correspondence or in person. Promote interest and provide information regarding recreation programs to other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments and the general public
- Assist in budget development and fundraising, as necessary. Identify potential sponsors and donors for programs and supplies
- Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties to include, but are not limited to, answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, conducting classes, selling tickets, collecting fees, helping set up for classes, events, etc
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and agencies and the general public
- Maintain familiarity with and execute safe work procedures associated with assigned work
- Serve as Camp Director of the Recreation Department’s Summer Playgrounds Program
- Facilitate the Recreation Department K – 12th Grade Basketball program, specialty camps, lessons and clinics
- Perform other related duties as required
