Do you like working outdoors? The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Gardener I in the Parks and Recreation Department. The Gardener I position is to provide assistance in the caring of flowers, plants and general landscapes in the City of Dover. The position is responsible for assigned tasks. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, installation, and maintenance of flower beds throughout the City.
- Assist with the design, installation, and maintenance of hanging baskets and flowerpots.
- Assist with the design, installation, and maintenance of general landscape areas throughout the City.
- Assist with the general maintenance of greenhouse operations; maintain records and logs of greenhouse activities.
- Assist with the maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Assist with the maintenance of nursery equipment.
- Assist with general ground clean-up and maintenance such as debris clean-up.
- Perform seasonal operations and maintenance tasks such as removing snow, Christmas trees pickup, and holiday decorating.
Required Qualifications
· Requires a high school diploma, or GED.
· A valid driver’s license and pesticide application license with ornamental, turf and right-of-way endorsements are required.
· Requires one year of related experience.
A criminal background investigation and driver’s license review will be required. Candidates may be given a job-related test during the interview.
